Rene M. Dupuis, Ph.D., P.E. (1942 – 2020)
Dr. Rene Dupuis founded Structural Research, Inc. in 1978, and was active in the commercial roofing industry since the 1970’s until his recent passing in 2020. He graduated from Mosinee High School in 1960, before serving in the U.S. Navy, participating in the Cuban Missile Crisis Blockade. Dr. Dupuis obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering (1967), Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (1968), Master of Science in Civil Engineering (1969), and a doctorate in Civil Engineering (1973). After teaching engineering for a short period at State University of New York, he moved into private engineering practice. Dr. Dupuis provided research, education, and expertise to thousands with over 100 published works and many hundreds more technical presentations. He provided expert witness services in the areas of structural engineering, building envelope design, material testing, and building envelope forensics. Dr. Dupuis was known for his sharp mind, problem-solving skills, and insightful contributions, and research in the roofing industry. He was renowned as a designer and researcher worldwide, in every sense an expert in his field. Dr. Dupuis was considered a consummate gentleman who always extended courtesies to all in the roofing industry, whether they were longtime veterans or a new member to the roofing community.
