The award-winning re-roofing of the Crazy Water Hotel was an epic project. According to the Mineral Wells Index, the historic Crazy Water Hotel opened in 1927 as part of a new era in rapidly growing Mineral Wells, Texas. Today the $8.2 million renovation, including property acquisition, of the seven-story Crazy Water Hotel is well underway and when completed, will resurrect the property into a residential, hospitality, events and tourist destination serving as an anchor for the downtown’s renaissance with new stores, planned parks and pedestrian shops and walkways.
Obviously, the roofing was an essential part of the renovation project. With over 52,000 square feet of overall roofing, the historical restoration project was a multi-level installation. Bronco Roofing installed tile roofing on the 10th floor with PVC flashings and dual clad PVC gutters. On the 2nd, 3rd, 8th and 9th floors they installed a new roofing system over concrete, steel and wood decks. The systems included 4” Iso & ½” HD Iso adhered both mechanically and adhered in low rise foam. IB Roof Systems’ PVC membrane was applied in a variety of colors including white, brown, tan and red along with a large amount of flashing around 16 skylights. The system included IB Roof PVC 50 and 60 mil membranes adhered with IB WaterBorne.
